1,679 tonnes of clothing collected

Sales are a well-known phenomenon: they are two intense shopping periods each year for bargain hunters. To add a more social and community-minded dimension, the Balexert shopping center has installed a collection bin for unused clothing and shoes, from January 2nd to 31st, 2026.

For this operation, carried out twice a year since January 2023, Balexert has partnered with the Geneva Red Cross, which collects and redistributes clothing deposited in this bin, free of charge or at a nominal price. This initiative perfectly complements its core mission: providing local support to people in need living in Geneva. Its activities with all vulnerable individuals, particularly children, young people, families, and the elderly, primarily aim to promote their health and preserve their dignity. The donations thus allow for a highly localized impact.

In total, since the partnership began in 2023, over 14.81 tons of clothing have been collected at Balexert! A huge thank you to everyone for your participation.

The Geneva Red Cross receives approximately 90 tons of clothing each year, which is then sorted, prepared, and sold or donated. This support also directly contributes to the success of the Vet’Shop second-hand stores, a service that supports the Geneva Red Cross’s work with the most vulnerable. This service allows people in need to clothe themselves at low prices, or even free of charge depending on their situation, while also contributing to the professional reintegration of store employees and those working in their textile recycling area.
